Day3 Beijing: Mutianyu Great Wall, Bird's Nest, Water Cube
Your English-speaking guide meets you in the lobby of your Beijing hotel, or at the arrivals gate of your train station or Beijing Capital / Daxing airport — tell us which at booking — holding a Your Way Holiday sign. Your private air-conditioned car and driver wait curbside; bags stay in the car, bottled water on board.

440,000 square metres and still the world’s largest civic plaza. Your guide walks you past the Gate of Heavenly Peace, the Monument to the People’s Heroes, Chairman Mao Memorial Hall, the Great Hall of the People and the National Museum of China — the 1949 proclamation of the People’s Republic was read from the Gate. Expect 40–60 minutes, flat paving, security bag-check at the entrance.

A 3,400-metre red wall encloses 980 buildings on 72 hectares — home to 24 Ming (1368–1644) and Qing (1644–1911) emperors. Your guide traces the central axis — Meridian Gate, Hall of Supreme Harmony, Palace of Heavenly Purity — and separates court fact from TV-drama myth. Comfortable shoes; expect 2–3 km of walking.

Lunch isn’t included on purpose. Your guide drives you to a genuine neighbourhood kitchen and helps you order — Peking Duck carved tableside with thin pancakes and hoisin, plus misandao (fried crisp strands with sugar, tamarind dip). You pay for what you actually eat; vegetarian, halal or lighter orders easy on request.

Built in 1420 under the Yongle Emperor, this is where Ming and Qing emperors performed the winter-solstice sacrifice for good harvests. Your guide walks you through the Hall of Prayer for Good Harvests, up onto the Circular Mound Altar and through the ancient cypress grove, and explains the numerology — nine and multiples of nine, everywhere.

A five-minute walk north of the Forbidden City’s rear gate, Jingshan (Coal Hill) is a 45-metre artificial mound built in 1423 from the excavation spoil of the palace moat. The paved path to the Wanchun Pavilion takes 15–20 minutes; from the top you get the classic north-to-south panorama over the golden roofs of the Forbidden City, and at sunset the whole axis lights up.

Your driver takes you back to your Beijing city-centre hotel for the night. Your guide stays on WeChat or WhatsApp for anything you need — a late-night dumpling run, an evening show swap, or an early start the next morning for the Wall.
After breakfast, your tour guide will meet you in the hotel lobby to begin your day of exploration. With a warm greeting and a well-planned itinerary, they will ensure that your journey through Beijing's rich history and vibrant culture starts smoothly and effortlessly. Your adventure will unfold with engaging insights and expert guidance, beginning from this very moment.
Start your day at the Summer Palace, a prime example of Chinese classical gardens. As you explore this imperial retreat, our knowledgeable guide will reveal the intricate details of its expansive, serene landscapes and elaborate pavilions. Discover the historical significance and artistic design of this UNESCO World Heritage site through engaging stories and expert commentary. Learn about the imperial lifestyle and the symbolism behind each meticulously crafted element. Enjoy the tranquil beauty of the gardens, which offer a glimpse into China’s rich cultural heritage and the opulence of its imperial past.

Continue your exploration with a serene Kunming Lake boat riding, a quintessential highlight of the Summer Palace experience. As you glide across the tranquil waters, your guide will provide a detailed account of the lake’s historical and strategic significance within the palace grounds. Enjoy a unique perspective of the Summer Palace’s stunning landscapes and architectural marvels, with your guide offering enriching insights into the lake's role in the palace’s design. This peaceful boat ride allows you to soak in the picturesque surroundings while deepening your appreciation of the harmonious relationship between nature and imperial architecture. With each gentle ripple, you'll uncover the lake's hidden stories and its importance in enhancing the palace's serene ambiance.

After exploring the Summer Palace, head to a local restaurant for a delightful lunch. Here, you'll savor two of Beijing's classic culinary treasures: Beijing Zha Jiang Mian and Chestnutcake. Beijing Zha Jiang Mian, known for its savory and rich sauce, offers a hearty and flavorful taste that embodies the essence of Beijing street food. Complementing this is the Chestnutcake, a traditional sweet treat with a delicate, nutty flavor that highlights local ingredients and age-old recipes. As you indulge in these authentic dishes, your guide will provide fascinating insights into their cultural significance and historical background. This meal not only satisfies your taste buds but also deepens your understanding of Beijing’s culinary heritage, offering a genuine and immersive dining experience that connects you to the city's rich traditions.

After lunch, delve into the traditional charm of Nanluoguxiang. Stroll through the labyrinthine alleys and quaint courtyards of this historic neighborhood, where the old-world atmosphere and preserved architecture create a captivating backdrop. Our guide will immerse you in the rich history and cultural significance of Nanluoguxiang, offering detailed insights into its evolution from ancient times to its present-day character. Experience the essence of traditional Beijing life with a unique hutong family visit, where you'll interact with locals and gain firsthand knowledge about their daily routines, customs, and lifestyle. As you wander through the narrow streets, your guide will point out hidden gems, share intriguing anecdotes, and provide context to the area’s storied past. This exploration offers a profound connection to Beijing’s heritage, making your visit to Nanluoguxiang both enlightening and memorable.

Conclude your day at the vibrant Panjiayuan Antique Market, a veritable treasure trove of China’s rich cultural heritage. As you navigate through the bustling market’s labyrinthine alleys, our expert guide will assist you in identifying genuine antiques, providing valuable insights into their historical significance and authenticity. Immerse yourself in the lively atmosphere, where the market's eclectic mix of stalls offers a diverse array of artifacts, antiques, and unique souvenirs. From ancient porcelain and traditional crafts to vintage memorabilia, the market provides a captivating glimpse into China’s artistic and historical legacy. With our guide’s expert knowledge and engaging commentary, you'll gain a deeper appreciation for the treasures you encounter.

As your enriching tour draws to a close, take a moment to relax and unwind with our guide’s attentive assistance as you are comfortably transported back to your hotel in Beijing. Enjoy a smooth and seamless journey, reflecting on a day filled with immersive cultural exploration and captivating experiences. Our guide will ensure that all your transportation needs are met with utmost care and efficiency, allowing you to fully appreciate the day's discoveries without any logistical concerns.
An early start — your driver takes you 70 km north to the Mutianyu section, about 90 minutes on the expressway with one comfort stop on request.
Mutianyu is one of the best-preserved and least-crowded sections, restored from 1983 on original Ming masonry (1368–1644). Take the enclosed cable car up to Tower 14, walk the ridge west towards Tower 20, and — if you want the fun descent — take the open toboggan slide down through the trees. Expect 2–3 hours on the wall; worn-soled shoes, sun protection and one bottle of water from the car.

Lunch isn’t included on purpose. Back down in the valley your guide picks a farmhouse restaurant — luzhu huoshao (slow-braised pork in a crispy flatbread) or tang huoshao (sweet flaky pastry with brown-sugar filling). Pay for what you eat; vegetarian, halal or lighter orders easy.

Back into the city for Beijing Olympic Park, home of the 2008 Games. The Bird’s Nest (National Stadium, Herzog & de Meuron) is a steel lattice that looks like ceramic crackle; the park itself is a good 30-minute walk. Your guide places you for the classic photo angles and explains the reuse plan for the 2022 Winter Games.

Ten minutes on foot, the Water Cube (National Aquatics Center) — ETFE-bubble cladding inspired by soap-bath geometry, and now the Ice Cube for curling. Interior pool or Ice Cube tour bookable on request; the exterior photo walk is included.

Your driver takes you back to your Beijing hotel, or drops you at whichever train station or airport you told us at booking — Beijing Capital, Daxing, Beijing South or Beijing West. Bags come out of the car, and your guide stays on WeChat or WhatsApp if you need anything after drop-off.
Three full days, roughly 8 hours per day including transfers. Day 3 starts early for the Wall.
Your hotel in Beijing, your train station, or the arrivals gate at Beijing Capital or Daxing airport — all three days.
No, deliberately. Your guide drives you to genuine local kitchens, helps you order, and you pay for what you eat. Vegetarian, halal or lighter meals are easy to arrange.
Cable car / toboggan at Mutianyu and boat on Kunming Lake are quoted separately at booking — send your dates and group size and we’ll email options and pricing.
Private — only your party, your own car and driver, your own English-speaking guide for all three days.
Yes. It’s private, so if you’d rather swap the Panjiayuan afternoon for a hutong rickshaw loop, or add a Houhai bar evening, an acrobatics show, a paper-cutting workshop or Hanfu photos, tell us at booking or on the day.
The three-day route already covers Tiananmen, the Forbidden City, Jingshan Park, Mutianyu Great Wall, the Summer Palace, the Temple of Heaven, Panjiayuan and the Bird’s Nest / Water Cube. Pick any of the six options below and we’ll slot them into an evening or an early-morning break — your own car and guide, so nothing feels rushed.
Houhai Bar Street After Dark
An evening along the lakeside bar strip behind the Drum Tower — live folk bands, craft beer, low-level pubs. Your guide books a table at a place with a view and stays with you, then drives you back to the hotel when you’re ready. Non-drinkers can swap to a teahouse instead.

Hutong Rickshaw Ride
A 45–60 minute rickshaw loop through the alleys around the Drum Tower and Mao's former residence, with a rickshaw puller-cum-guide who lives in the neighbourhood. Stops at a courtyard home and a family-run dumpling kitchen.

Peking Opera Face-Painting Workshop
A one-hour session with a working opera makeup artist — learn what red, black, white and gold mean on stage, then try your own brush on. Held at a small studio near Qianmen, not a tourist trap.

Chinese Paper-Cutting Workshop
Ninety minutes with a Jianshui or Foshan-trained artist cutting the traditional zhi window motifs — fold, snip, unfold — and you take your own piece home. Good for families or anyone who wants a slower mid-trip afternoon.

Mandarin Taster at Lao She Teahouse
A 60-minute beginner class at the famous Lao She Teahouse in Qianmen — tones, greetings, how to order tea and snacks — followed by a seat in the main hall for the Kung Fu / face-changing variety show.

Hanfu Dress-up & Photo Shoot
Ming- or Qing-style hanfu fitted at a shop near Tiananmen or the Summer Palace, hair and light makeup included. Photographer follows for 60–90 minutes; you keep the edited files (40–60 shots). Bring flat shoes.

We booked the three day tour as a birthday surprise for my husband and it was worth it. Each morning our guide discussed the day with us and asked what we cared about, then quietly reshuffled things. When my husband said he wanted more time at the Great Wall and less at a museum, they cut the museum without fuss. Meals were a mix, one night a proper Peking duck with the carving ceremony, one lunch a tiny dumpling spot a block off the main street that we would never have found. Same driver all three days who remembered we liked the windows open. Felt personal rather than a package.
Initially thought 3 days might be too long but it was perfect. Day 1: Forbidden City + Tiananmen + Temple of Heaven. Day 2: Mutianyu Great Wall + Olympic Park. Day 3: Summer Palace + hutong experience. Each day had a different guide (all excellent) and the same reliable driver who remembered our preferences - like how we always wanted the AC on high and water in the car. Guide Kevin on day 2 took us to a Muslim restaurant near the Bird’s Nest for lamb skewers and hand-pulled noodles. Authentic and delicious. Never once felt like we were being herded.
We had an awesome 3-day tour with Your Way Holiday! From start to finish, everything was smooth. The guide was super knowledgeable and made the history of places like the Forbidden City and Mutianyu Great Wall so interesting—especially for our kid! The driver was always on time, and the coordination between him and the guide was seamless, so we never wasted a minute. Plus, the company responded to our inquiry in just 24 hours and helped us put together a fantastic itinerary. Highly recommend it for families who want a stress-free, fun trip to Beijing!

This tour was everything we hoped for and more. As first-time visitors to Beijing, we wanted to hit the major sites, but also take it easy. The guide, Gu, was fantastic—her explanations were both detailed and fun, and she made sure we had enough time to enjoy each spot, especially at the Mutianyu Great Wall. The seamless coordination between the driver and guide made everything run smoothly. We even had time to relax at the Bird's Nest and Water Cube. Highly recommend for anyone who wants to see the best of Beijing in a short time.

I had the best time exploring Beijing with this tour. The Forbidden City and Temple of Heaven were incredible, and the Summer Palace offered a peaceful escape. The Mutianyu Great Wall was less crowded, offering amazing views. The modern side of Beijing, like the Bird’s Nest and Water Cube, added a unique contrast. This all-inclusive tour was well worth it!
