Day 2. Chengdu

We'll begin our day with a pickup from your hotel in Chengdu, setting off for the renowned Chengdu Panda Base. Established in 1987, the base initially housed six giant pandas rescued from the wild. Over the years, it has achieved significant milestones, including the birth of 124 panda cubs by 2008, with the captive panda population now reaching 83 individuals. As we arrive, our guide will provide fascinating insights into the center's role as a world-class research facility and conservation education center. You'll have the opportunity to observe these adorable pandas in their natural habitat, learning about their behaviors, conservation efforts, and the base's contributions to global panda conservation. Our destination is the awe-inspiring Leshan Giant Buddha, a monumental sculpture carved into a cliff during the Tang Dynasty to control flooding. Upon arrival at Leshan Port, we'll board a boat for a closer look at this magnificent Buddha, the tallest stone Buddha statue in the world. As we cruise near the statue, your guide will provide insightful commentary on its history, architectural significance, and the engineering marvels of its creation. You'll have ample opportunities to capture photos of this iconic symbol of Buddhist artistry and marvel at its imposing presence from the water.
