Next, we'll explore the Xi'an City Wall, a testament to China's ancient capital and one of the oldest, largest, and best-preserved city walls in the country. Originally constructed during the reign of the Hongwu Emperor Zhu Yuanzhang in the 14th century as a formidable military defense, the wall exemplifies the architectural prowess of feudal society. Over the centuries, it has undergone several renovations, notably in the late 1500s, 1700s, and most recently in 1983, preserving its grandeur and historical significance. Spanning approximately 14 square kilometers (5.4 sq mi), the Xi'an City Wall is a candidate for UNESCO World Heritage status as part of the "City Walls of the Ming and Qing Dynasties," offering a captivating glimpse into China's imperial past.
