The first stop is the Lama Temple, Beijing’s most revered Tibetan Buddhist site. This spiritual sanctuary is known for its beautifully preserved architecture, blending Han Chinese and Tibetan influences. As you wander through its five grand halls and along incense-scented corridors, your guide will explain the deep religious significance and stories behind each statue and artifact, including the towering 26-meter-tall Maitreya Buddha carved from a single sandalwood tree. You’ll also gain a deeper understanding of Tibetan Buddhism and its historical connection to Beijing’s royal courts, making this visit as intellectually engaging as it is visually impressive.

Next, explore the historic Nanluoguxiang Hutong, a centuries-old alleyway that beautifully blends traditional Beijing life with creative modern flair. Your guide will walk you through the area’s ancient layout, where grey-brick courtyards stand side by side with trendy cafés and quirky boutiques. Along the way, you’ll learn how hutongs developed over dynasties and how they’ve been preserved or reimagined in modern times. With insights into architecture, community life, and urban renewal, this stroll offers a compelling look at the soul of Beijing—past and present—while giving you plenty of chances to pause for snacks or photos along the route.

From Nanluoguxiang, continue to the scenic Shichahai Area, where three interconnected lakes—Qianhai, Houhai, and Xihai—are lined with willow trees, imperial mansions, and lively bars. As you walk along the water’s edge or explore its quieter courtyards, your guide will share stories of ancient scholars, poets, and nobles who once lived nearby. Depending on time and interest, you may also visit a traditional Siheyuan courtyard home and speak with a local resident to hear about the joys and challenges of hutong life today. With reflections glimmering on the lake and the sound of paddles on water, this part of the tour invites you to slow down and connect deeply with Beijing’s living history.

ShichahaiShichahai-Beijng

Take a break to enjoy lunch at a cozy courtyard-style restaurant nestled in the heart of the old city. Here, you’ll savor a thoughtfully curated meal that reflects the comforting flavors of Beijing cuisine. Signature dishes like zhajiangmian (noodles with soybean paste), crispy dumplings, and seasonal vegetable sides are served in a relaxed, local atmosphere. Your guide will introduce each dish with stories about its origin, how it’s made, and its role in local life. If you have dietary preferences, they’ll make sure your experience is just right. More than just a meal, this stop is a cultural experience that brings the city’s flavors and traditions to life.

The journey continues with a visit to Yandaixie Street, one of Beijing’s oldest and most atmospheric commercial lanes. Its name, which means "Skewed Tobacco Pipe Street," recalls its origins as a hub for pipe-making and sales during the Qing Dynasty. Today, the narrow alley is lined with vibrant shops selling antiques, folk crafts, calligraphy, and souvenirs. Your guide will help you explore beyond the surface—pointing out Qing-style architecture, sharing stories of merchants past, and even helping you bargain if you find a keepsake you like. It’s a perfect place to witness how tradition and commerce intersect in everyday Beijing life.

Next, head to Liulichang Culture Street, a historic stretch renowned for its dedication to traditional Chinese arts and literature. Once a gathering place for scholars and artists, the street still pulses with intellectual charm. Browse through elegant calligraphy scrolls, rare books, ink stones, and hand-carved seals as your guide explains their cultural value and symbolism. Whether you’re interested in purchasing a piece or simply learning more, this stop offers a rare opportunity to dive into China’s scholarly heritage. With its quiet lanes and old-fashioned storefronts, Liulichang feels like stepping into the refined world of classical Chinese literati.

Then stroll through Wudaoying Hutong, a quieter and more contemporary alleyway where Beijing’s creative community thrives. In contrast to the commercial energy of Nanluoguxiang, Wudaoying offers a more laid-back vibe with its artsy cafés, niche galleries, and eco-conscious boutiques. Here, the traditional courtyard homes have been repurposed by artists and young entrepreneurs, creating a unique fusion of old and new. Your guide will introduce you to the area’s backstory, including its transformation from forgotten alley to cultural hotspot. Whether you're stopping for coffee, browsing indie shops, or simply taking in the atmosphere, this is a perfect place to wrap up your hutong exploration.

At the end of the day, your guide will accompany you back to your hotel, train station, or airport, ensuring a smooth and relaxing end to your journey. Whether your next step is continuing your travels or returning home, you’ll carry with you vivid memories of Beijing’s hutongs, temples, and rich cultural tapestry. With all logistics taken care of, you can fully focus on the impressions and emotions of the day. Our guide will remain attentive to your needs until the very last moment, ensuring your experience with Your Way Holiday ends just as warmly and thoughtfully as it began.
