Your first stop is the vast and iconic Tiananmen Square, a place that has witnessed many of China’s most important historical moments. Stretching over 100 acres, it is not only one of the world’s largest public squares but also a symbolic space for the Chinese people. As you walk across the marble-paved square, your guide will share stories of political milestones, past ceremonies, and the square’s significance in both ancient and contemporary times. You’ll pause to view major landmarks such as the Great Hall of the People, the National Museum, and the Mausoleum of Mao Zedong, with the towering flagpole at the center where the national flag is raised daily at sunrise. This introduction sets a serious yet respectful tone, grounding your day in the living legacy of modern China.

Next, you’ll step into the heart of imperial China with a visit to the legendary Forbidden City, known today as the Palace Museum. Behind the towering red walls lies a sprawling palace complex once home to 24 emperors. With over 900 buildings and endless details in architecture, symbolism, and design, your guide will tailor the route to showcase the highlights while sharing captivating stories of power struggles, lavish ceremonies, and quiet imperial routines. You’ll walk through the grand courtyards, peer into royal halls, and imagine the lives that played out within these historic chambers. This isn’t just a sightseeing visit—it’s a powerful journey back to the heart of dynastic China, with your guide weaving together legends and facts that make the past feel vividly present.

After a morning full of exploration, you’ll break for lunch at a well-selected local restaurant, offering an authentic and comfortable setting to experience Beijing’s culinary scene. Depending on your taste, you might be introduced to regional dishes such as Peking-style shredded pork, scallion pancakes, or hand-pulled noodles with soy bean paste. If you have any dietary preferences, your guide will coordinate with the kitchen to ensure a smooth and enjoyable meal. This isn’t just about eating—it’s a chance to engage with the rhythm of local life, with your guide possibly sharing cultural insights about dining etiquette or the significance of certain ingredients in northern Chinese cuisine. It's a welcome pause before continuing your adventure.

In the peaceful afternoon, you’ll visit the serene and grand Temple of Heaven, once the most important ceremonial site for Ming and Qing emperors. Located in a large park filled with ancient cypress trees and open sky, the temple complex is a masterpiece of symmetry and cosmological design. Your guide will explain how emperors would come here each winter solstice to pray for abundant harvests, and how every structure—from the blue-tiled Hall of Prayer to the Echo Wall—was aligned with cosmic and spiritual principles. The park around the temple is also full of life: locals singing, dancing, practicing calligraphy or playing chess, adding a warm and human touch to this historical site. It’s a place where past and present harmoniously meet.

Next, experience the cultural heartbeat of the capital with a stroll down Qianmen Street, a lively pedestrian zone that blends centuries-old traditions with the energy of modern commerce. Once a bustling marketplace for royal families and traders from all over China, Qianmen has been beautifully restored with traditional façades, red lanterns, and classic tram cars. As you walk past heritage brands like Quanjude Roast Duck or Zhengyangmen Tea Shop, your guide will share stories about the street’s commercial golden age and how it continues to thrive today. Whether you're craving a souvenir, some street snacks, or just a photo of Beijing’s past and future in one frame, this stop offers the perfect mix of culture and casual charm.

As your first day in Beijing draws to a close, your guide will accompany you back to your downtown hotel, making sure everything is in order and answering any questions you may have about the evening or tomorrow’s plans. If you're curious about where to eat dinner or want to explore the nearby hutongs or shopping streets, your guide can provide recommendations or even help arrange transportation. This gentle and thoughtful wrap-up ensures you return not only with amazing photos, but with a deep sense of connection to the stories, flavors, and spirit of Beijing. You’ll end the day feeling cared for, well-oriented, and eager for what Day 2 has in store.

Day2 Beijing-Tianjin by High-Speed Train

  • Place&Transport: Beijing-Tianjin
  • Today's Activities: Zhang Xueliang Former Residence, Jingyuan Garden, Porcelain House, Haihe River cruise
  • Accommodation: N/A
  • Meal: To avoid touristy pre-made meals, our guides will recommend top local restaurants, help you choose dishes, and explain their cultural significance for an authentic taste of local cuisine.

Your second day begins with a smooth high-speed train journey from Beijing to Tianjin, offering a comfortable and scenic ride as you cross into one of China’s most dynamic cities. Upon arrival, your personal guide will be waiting at the station exit, holding a “Your Way Holiday” sign to greet you warmly. They’ll assist with your bags and escort you to a private car, ensuring a relaxed transition into the day’s exploration. On the way into the city center, your guide will share an overview of Tianjin’s role in modern history, from foreign concessions to revolutionary turning points. You'll get a sense of Tianjin’s unique personality—part traditional northern China, part global port city—all before your first stop.

beijing your way holiday

Your first visit is to the Former Residence of Zhang Xueliang, a quiet, elegant compound with deep historical weight. Zhang, known as the "Young Marshal," played a pivotal role in 20th-century China, most famously during the Xi’an Incident, which forced a united front between the Communists and Nationalists. Walking through the garden-style layout, you’ll see personal photos, furniture, and original rooms that have been carefully preserved. Your guide will explain not just the facts, but the emotional impact of Zhang’s choices on Chinese history. This stop offers both a human connection and a thoughtful window into a key figure’s life beyond the headlines.

Next, you’ll explore Jingyuan Garden, a former imperial retreat with a unique East-meets-West architectural blend. Once the temporary home of Puyi, the last emperor of China, Jingyuan is rich in emotional complexity. You’ll walk through sunlit halls and quiet gardens that once echoed with the conflicted steps of a fallen monarch trying to redefine his place in the world. Your guide will highlight both the physical beauty of the villa and the political tension surrounding Puyi’s time in Tianjin. Inside, museum displays feature letters, uniforms, and rare photos—each one offering a glimpse into a life caught between dynasties, modernity, and foreign powers.

When it’s time for lunch, your guide will lead you to a local restaurant favored for both quality and authenticity. Here you’ll get a taste of Tianjin’s distinctive cuisine—perhaps goubuli baozi, crispy-skinned dumplings, or savory braised dishes rich with northern flavor. Your guide will help you order based on your preferences, explain the story behind the dishes, and ensure that the meal is just right for your tastes and dietary needs. Over tea or soup, you’ll also learn how Tianjin’s food reflects its port city heritage—drawing from neighboring provinces, sea trade, and its mixed cultural past. It’s not just a meal—it’s edible history.

In the afternoon, visit the bold and unforgettable Porcelain House, a wildly artistic museum that transforms everyday antiques into an architectural wonder. From the outside, the building is already a spectacle—walls and columns are covered in broken porcelain vases, tiles, and ceramic shards arranged into colorful patterns and mythological figures. Inside, you’ll find a blend of Western furniture, Chinese pottery, calligraphy, and decorative arts, all curated in a whimsical and dreamlike style. Your guide will explain the concept behind this creation, why it sparked debate among locals, and how it represents the evolving conversation between preservation and innovation in modern China.

Porcelain-HousePorcelain-House-Tianjin

Then it’s time to wind down with a scenic Haihe River cruise, offering you a chance to experience Tianjin’s skyline and waterfront at a gentle, floating pace. From the open-air deck, you’ll glide past colonial-era buildings, graceful stone bridges, and the city’s modern financial district, all reflected on the calm waters. Your guide will point out highlights like the Tianjin Eye, Italian Style Street, and old concession-era mansions, giving you a panoramic view of the city’s fascinating architectural layers. As the breeze cools your face and city lights begin to flicker on, you’ll feel both relaxed and reconnected with the rhythm of the river.

At the end of your day in Tianjin, your guide will ensure you are dropped off safely at either your Tianjin hotel, railway station, or airport, depending on your schedule. They’ll help with tickets, luggage, or anything else you need for a smooth departure. Whether you’re heading back to Beijing or continuing your journey elsewhere, you’ll leave Tianjin with a deeper appreciation for its hidden beauty, its historical weight, and its global character. More than just a stop between cities, this day reveals Tianjin as a destination with its own compelling stories, best experienced with someone who knows them well.

What stood out to me most was the balance—Li Shutong’s Former Residence was deeply moving, while Ancient Culture Street was full of life and snacks. Our guide even arranged front-row seats for xiangsheng, which was such a cool cultural experience. Ending the day with the Tianjin Eye and Haihe River views made the city feel romantic and grand. A perfect cruise stop.

Tianjin's past came to life for me, especially at the Pingjin Campaign Memorial. The tour was well-paced and personal. The Italian Style Street was like stepping into another world, and Marco Polo Square was a peaceful spot to slow down. I never thought I’d enjoy both war history and European architecture in one day—but this tour delivered that and more.
