Lintong, 35 km east of Xi’an, holds roughly 8,000 life-size clay soldiers, horses and chariots buried with the first emperor Qin Shi Huang around 210 BC and rediscovered by farmers digging a well in 1974 (UNESCO-listed). You’ll cover Pit 1, Pit 2, Pit 3 and the bronze-chariot museum at a proper pace, break for lunch at a local noodle kitchen on your own bill, and finish back at your Xi’an pickup point or the station for the evening train. Seven days Beijing plus Shanghai was a good intro to China. High speed train was comfortable and transfers were organized, guides had signs at each station which removed a lot of stress. Beijing side was strong, especially the guide Kevin who was great with our kids. Shanghai was busier and one afternoon we had too much driving time between spots, felt like traffic ate part of the day. Food was good throughout, one memorable hotpot night in Beijing near a temple area, a home style restaurant Kevin found for us. Overall a 4 star because of the one sluggish afternoon in Shanghai, everything else excellent.
Beijing for 4 days, Shanghai for 3 days, connected by high-speed train. Guide in Beijing (Kevin) and guide in Shanghai (Lily) were both excellent - knowledgeable, flexible, and good communicators. In Beijing we did the Wall, Forbidden City, Summer Palace, and a hutong cooking experience. In Shanghai it was the Bund, Yu Garden, French Concession, and a water town day trip to Zhujiajiao. The handoff between cities was smooth - driver in Beijing took us to the train station, guide Lily met us at Shanghai Hongqiao with a sign. Luggage handled, no stress. Meals in both cities were at local spots, not tourist traps.
This was our first time visiting China as a family from the UK, and choosing both Shanghai and Beijing was definitely the right decision—they’re just must-see cities. What we loved most was how varied the experience felt, from the charm of the water town near Shanghai to the incredible scale of Beijing’s historic sites. Zhujiajiao was such a peaceful highlight, while places like the Forbidden City and the Great Wall completely blew us away—you really feel the history and grandeur in a way that’s hard to describe. The whole trip was very well organized, and the pacing worked perfectly for our family—my parents were comfortable, and the kids stayed engaged and happy the whole time. Our guide and driver made everything easy, and we never had to worry about logistics. It was one of those trips where everyone, no matter the age, genuinely had a great time. We’re already looking forward to coming back to China again!

We had such an incredible week exploring Shanghai and Beijing! Loved strolling through the Old French Concession and Tianzifang — so full of charm and character. Zhujiajiao Water Town was super peaceful, definitely a highlight in Shanghai.
In Beijing, the Forbidden City and the Great Wall totally blew us away. Standing on the Wall at Mutianyu was one of those "wow" moments you never forget. Everything was super well-organized from start to finish, and the high-speed train between cities made traveling so easy.
Overall, an unforgettable trip full of history, culture, and amazing sights!
We took the kids to China over the Christmas holiday and decided to go for a private tour with a guide and car service to get the best experience. The company was awesome—great service and really easy to communicate with. We’re already planning to head to Chengdu in April to see the pandas if we can!
