Our tour guide will meet you in your hotel's lobby, then take a short drive to Tian'anmen Square to start your walking tour from the very Zero Point of Highways of China, located on the axis of old Beijing. As the geographical center of Beijing City, Tian'anmen Square is the largest city square in the world, covering an area of 440,000 square meters (about 109 acres). This iconic square is surrounded by significant landmarks, including the Great Hall of the People, the National Museum of China, and the Mausoleum of Mao Zedong. The square's vast expanse and historical significance make it a must-visit destination, where you can witness the daily flag-raising ceremony, explore the Monument to the People's Heroes, and soak in the atmosphere of this monumental public space.
Then move on to the Forbidden City, also known as the Palace Museum, which ranks among the world's five most famous palaces alongside the Palace of Versailles in France, Buckingham Palace in England, the White House in the U.S., and the Kremlin in Russia. This unparalleled palace spans an impressive 720,000 square meters (177.9 acres) and boasts approximately 8,700 rooms. Encased by a towering red wall stretching 3,400 meters (3,718 yards) in length, the Forbidden City stands as the most magnificent and splendid palace complex in China. Designated a World Cultural Heritage site in 1987, the palace was constructed during the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) over a span of fourteen years from 1406 to 1420. Noteworthy highlights include its vast courtyards, intricately detailed halls, and the rich history that echoes through its grand architecture.
After exploring the Forbidden City, our guide will lead you on a trek up to the hill behind the Forbidden City – Jingshan Park, which stands at an altitude of 94 meters. As you ascend, our knowledgeable guide will share fascinating insights about the park's history and significance. Situated in the center of Beijing, Jingshan Park is a beautiful royal landscape garden covering an area of 57 acres (about 230,000 square meters). Originally named Wansui Hill (Long Live Hill), Zhen Hill, or Meishan Hill (Coal Hill), it offers a breathtaking bird's eye view of the entire city from its mid-summit, which is the highest point in Beijing. From the peak, you'll be able to get a full and clear view of the Forbidden City, a sight that our guide will help you fully appreciate by pointing out key landmarks and sharing their historical contexts. This panoramic vista provides a perfect opportunity for reflection and photography, capturing the grandeur of Beijing's historical heart.
